1979 Suburban Aerials

Today we fly out of Portland International Airport on a balmy July afternoon in 1979.

Heading East, we circle wide over Fairview, Southwardly over Gresham, Damascus, Happy Valley, Oregon City, Tualatin, Beaverton and Hillsboro.

Below us we see a city growing at the edges. New subdivisions, yellow cars, vacant pastures. Traffic is light. Red barns, forests, and orchards will disappear in the coming years as Portland’s post-recession housing boom takes off.

Note: many of these are unknown locations. Leave a comment if you can help.
