Kerby Exit and Vicinity 1981

Here we see a newly built Kerby exit. I wonder why they chose that name over the more likely street it parallels, Cook. We shall forever wonder.

It is hard to believe now but the original plan was to continue the freeway East near present-day Fremont, hence it’s name. This was to be the Rose City Freeway. Thankfully a freeway revolt stopped that from happening. But the bridge was well into design by the time the plans changed and what we ended up with is an awkwardly broad roadway on this ramp until it hooks sharply at its terminus.

Also pictured is a newly rebuilt Knott.
