Before & After: NW. 5th AVE

Cafe tables, brick lined sidewalks with street trees and light rail take the place of oil stained asphalt, cobra heads and weeds. Though this area is still a den of illicit actvitiy, the visuals have changed radically. Downtown Portland in the 70s was not a place you strolled. You drove. You drove a massive rusting pre-EPA sedan and then you got the hell out of there.

May we never we forget how far we have come and what we owe the generations of planners and officials which made this dramatic transformation possible.

Located at approximately 412 NW. 5th Avenue, Portland, OR.
