Above Hollywood: 1977

Continuing our Hollywood theme, here are some fantastic aerials of the business district and neighborhood from 1977. I suppose it is fitting that Portland’s first auto-era suburb would be so riddled with surface lots by 1977. It’s striking how many of these remain today. With land and housing prices at an all time high, it is just a matter of time before greater density arrives in Hollywood. Below, I’ve highlighted surface parking in 1990 compared with 2016.

Editor’s Note: To make viewing full-res images easier on mobile, we’ve made it so that when you now click an image, you go stright to the full-size picture in a new tab. Please let us know if you like this over the slideshow feature we used before. Trying to do the best we can given the template.

  1. I never tire of these aerial shots. So much change, yet so much remains. With the infill movement gaining momentum, we should enjoy this area for what it is while we can.
